Dear Avon Moms

They can be our toughest critic while being our biggest fan. Their reminders to put on our earrings , study hard, and sit up straight may have driven us crazy, but there’s nothing more magical than the way their smell, laugh, hug, or chicken-with -rice-and- beans (peas) Jamaican casserole can make everything better.

I’m unfortunate to have lost my amazing mom, “Daisy May”, who many thought on paper was a mature white woman until they read her ethnicity section which said Afro Caribbean/ Jamaican/ Black British .  A woman who came from a predominately Black Country, Jamaica🇯🇲 to becoming an immigrant in a predominantly white society, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, always revered and tried to acknowledge God in every way while making the most mundane task seem like a proverb. She was also someone who would always reminded us as her children that the best things in life are not material but spiritual.

I’m eternally grateful to be called mom (sometimes aunty) myself by two handsome, smart, and pretty awesome (not Jewish/ Hebrew) boys Joseph and Lemuel.

So, I’m asking you to nominate the women in your life who have lifted you up so that you could glowLet the world be overwhelmed by the stories you share, about sacrifice, support, and unconditional love.Tell other Avoners about makè’s (mother’s) and female carers who motivated you and who are like second/ surrogate moms to your kids. Don’t forget to also honored your Gogo’s (grandmothers) And females in your life who cared for you so that your moms could go out to earn a living to provide, and recognize friends whose maternal selflessness and positivity amidst life’s toughest moments inspired you.

On this Mother’s Day, I want to Salute you. Whether you are a new mom in need of a nap, a nostalgic mom finding your new normal, a mom to babies with four legs and fur, an aspiring mom, or simply celebrating the mothers in your life, I celebrate you and the women who helped shape you into who you are today.

Lots of love,

Avon lady Andrea
